Service Learning Event Outside of Zone 1 & 2
For my service learning experience outside of zone two, I participated in a weeding project in Richmond. A bunch of NUin students took the above ground train to the outskirts of london to an amazing area known as Richmond. We met out supervisor and were driven to a local park where we participated in a weeding project. Last year this organization planted a hedge to create a natural barrier between a row of houses and the park. Our job of the day was to weed the new growth in order for it to grow further. All of us were on our hands and knees pulling weed out left right and center! I was pushed slightly out of my comfort zone during this service learning experience, while I was pulling the weeds out of the ground, all sorts of spiders, centipedes and worms surfaced from the ground. I hate creepy crawlers and i had to suck it up in order to complete this project. I stayed focused and actively participated throughout the entire course of the project. Although it was a long day of weeding and mulching, I left the project feeling fulfilled. I enjoyed being part of a service learning project that involved improving the environment and I was able to give back something to the city that I am currently living in. I know that this past weekend, some NUin student participated in another service learning event that was co- ordinated by the same company. For my service learning projects, many of them have revolved around walks and runs in hyde park, and this project required me to do something different.
