November 9 to November 15
Last week was a fairly uneventful week for NUin Greece. Students are finally catching up on rest after traveling for break and our Athens trip the weekend prior. They also were wrapping up midterms for all their courses. Therefore, it was a good point in the semester for the staff to check in with all students individually about their experience abroad, the program, classes, and service learning. Staff members met with each of their City State members individually over the course of last week. The information collected served multiple purposes, but mainly to make sure that if students were having any issues that they had an outlet to discuss those with the staff member more formally. Overall the student meetings were very positive and the staff really enjoyed the time to connect with the City State students better. In other City State news, our weekly City State competition was a pizza making contest. Athens took home the prize for the most delicious pizza!
The city was also a buzz with the start of the International Film Festival. It is the 50th anniversary of the Film Festival and draws directors, actors, etc. from all over the world. We have 13 students who have been working all semester as part of their service learning experience with the festival. They are writing blogs, film reviews, helping with street performances, etc. Here is a link to the festival’s website so you can get more information if you are interested: http://www.filmfestival.gr/default.aspx?lang=en-US&page=448
Additionally, please see ACT’s Study Abroad Newsletter for more general updates from the campus. Some of our students complete their service hours writing articles, interviewing their peers, etc. for the newsletter too. The most current newsletter is attached to this blog in a pdf version.
