Stockholm Syndrome

Observations from my visit to Sweden:

1. Sweden is a socialist society.

2. Finnish people have an unexplainable detest for Swedish people.

3. One of the biggest churches in Scandinavia is located in Sweden.

4. Swedish people get to go to school (university and Ph.D) for free and have free health care, but the cost of living is still high.

5. There is really only one chain restaurant in Sweden that is not American and it is a spin-off on McDonald’s.

6. Baby carrots instead of french fries is an option at McDonald’s.

7. It is nearly impossible to get into a club in Stockholm unless you are on a guest list or VIP list. And if they do let you through, it will cost 160 kr to get in.

8. Alcohol can only be purchased from one store and it is monopolized so prices are very high.

9. ABBA, Ace of Base, A-Teens, and The Sounds are from Sweden.

10. Swedish people learn English while growing up and even use English text books in school.

11. Thailand is a popular destination spot for Swedish people.

12. “Warm” means 25 degrees.

13. Sweden is a monarchy, but the King does not have any power.

14. Castles in Sweden are really just square buildings and don’t look very spectacular on the outside.

15. Sweden is very expensive, even without the bad exchange rate from USD.

16. Even when it is -5 degrees outside, Swedish people will still go running.

17. Holm is what I would refer to in English as an island. Stockholm is made out of many of little (and some big) holms. Thus the name.

18. Swedish are the second largest consumer of coffee. They have coffee with every meal without question. (Finland is number one)

19. The water is so clean in Sweden you can drink it from the tap! (And it tastes great!)

20. Sweden is vegetarian friendly. :)
